1. Alongside the doctorate
   Strategy consulting, around five years

   Software strategy, software landscapes, ERP selection and ERP implementations for industry, automotive, banking and insurance clients. The recurring thread was digitising order-to-cash and finance processes and getting separate business applications to work together.

2. Doctorate
   Dr.-Ing., production IT, RWTH Aachen

   Research on ERP as a service, modularisation and best-of-breed software architectures, done at the FIR research institute. The question was already the one Maesn answers: how to split what a company needs across several systems without losing the data exchange between them.

3. 2012 to 2017
   Industrial engineering and business administration, RWTH Aachen

   With study periods at Audencia Business School in France, in Singapore and in Brazil. The business half is where the accounting and finance process knowledge comes from.

He stayed close to the FIR research institute at RWTH Aachen, where he did his doctorate and which runs the Aachener ERP-Tage, and he is a regular at ERP and business application events and in SaaS and tech founder communities.
